The American Legion

“Veterans Helping Veterans” is the motto of The American Legion.

Veterans who continue their service to America by helping their brothers- and sisters-in-arms and their families. Veterans whose involvement in the community creates and supports the feeling of camaraderie which makes The American Legion the nation’s largest and most respected organization of wartime veterans.

The American Legion is a nonpartisan, not-for-profit organization with political influence perpetuated by its grass-roots involvement in the legislation process from local districts to Capitol Hill. Legionnaires’ sense of obligation to community, state, and nation drives an honest advocacy for veterans in Indiana and in Washington. The Legion stands behind the issues most important to the nation’s veterans community, backed by resolutions passed by volunteer leadership.

The American Legion’s success depends entirely on active membership, participation, and volunteerism. The organization belongs to the people it serves and the communities in which it thrives.

Indiana boasts 375 community-based Posts throughout the State with a total membership of 84,000. From youth activities to veterans’ assistance, The American Legion continues to be a force in your community, state, and nation.

Our Victory Post 70 has over 725 members right in your community.  For more than 97 years, we have been helping veterans and serving the citizens of Shelbyville through a variety of programs.   Those programs include educating our youth about the constitution, getting people to vote and participating in charity-based drives for our military and the community.

Working with you to make America great – that’s The American Legion!
